Indi is one of 74 Karnataka cities deploying in 2007 – 2008, municipal eGovernance modules of Property Tax, Financial Accounting GIS Mapping, Public Grievance & Redressal, Birth & Death Certification, and Ward Works. Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project(KMRP) is a partnership between the eGovernments Foundation & Survey of India. These computer based systems coupled with Govt. process re-engineering and GIS digital mapping will provide transparency and accountability and smoother delivery of services to citizens.

Introduction Profile ::

District: Bijapur is one of the largest districts in Karnataka and has an area of 10541 sq Km. Consisting 5.49% of the area of the state. It is nearly 580 Kms from the state capital Bangalore. It lies between 15x50 and 17x28 North Latitude and 74x54 and 76x28 East Longitude. The district is bounded by Solapur district on the north and Sangli on the north–west (both of Maharastra state), by the district of Belgaum on the west, Bagalkot on the south, Gulburga on the East and by Raichur on the south–east. Thus, it is a land–locked district on the northern boundary of Karnataka.Bijapur district is accessible by both highways and rail. The National highway 13 passes through the district in the eastern and central parts. Via Muddebihal and Bijapur. The taluka towns are well connected by state highways and district roads. The railway line connecting Solapur in Maharastra and Hubli passes through the center of the district, via Indi and Basavan Bagewadi. Bijapur district consists of 5 Taluks viz Bijapur, Basavana-Bagewadi, Indi, Muddebihal and Sindgi.

Town Municipal Council:

The Town Municipal Council Indi is one of the oldest Urban Local Body formed in Bijapur District. It was constituted in the Year 1973, celebrating its 35th Birth Year. It is situated along Sholapur – Mangalore National Highway No. 13, at a distance of about 20 Kms. from Zalaki, a state border of Karnataka and Maharashtra. The demographic features about Indi are as it is situated at 17o 10' 12" North Latitutde and 75o 58' 12" East of Longitude. The Indi town is at a distance of 60 Kms from the District Head Quarters – Bijapur, and is accessible with both road and train transportations. The TMC Office is located at the heart of the town near to the Bus station and very easily accessible to the citizens.

As of 2001 India Census, Indi had a population of 31,483. Out of which Males constitute 53% of population and Females 47%. Indi has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than National Average of 59.5%, Male literacy is 65% and Female Literacy is 48%. In Indi 15% of the population is under the age of 06 Years. The Indi Town Municipal Council has 23 Wards and erqual number of Councillors.
